About an hours drive away, in the department of the Corrèze, is the city of Brive-La-Gaillarde.

Although less quaint than Sarlat, Brive has a wide range of shops, cafes and restaurants and some of the more recognisable high street brands and outlets. There is also some interesting architecture and the hub of the mediaeval centre of the town is the imposing cathedral tower. Brive also has a more cosmopolitan flavour in it’s cafes and restaurants, with many international cuisines such as Thai, Moroccan, Lebanese and Indian to name a few.

Additionally there are many retail outlets in the shopping areas outside of the main town centre, easily accessible from the autoroutes and the main route through Brive which follows the Corrèze riverside.

Brive is also home to CA Brive Rugby, who at one time were European champions however have experienced a dip in form recently. Their current roster includes some British international stars such as Jamie Noon and Mike Blair although the team are currently in the second tier of the French national leagues and outside of the Top 14.
